An Easy To Follow Guide On How To Pack Moving Boxes

USE NEW BOXES

Reusing moving boxes is an option that can save you money, however, this money-saving technique does come with some drawbacks. Most notably, used boxes tend to lose structural integrity over time. By using boxes in this weakened state, you run the risk of them being crushed while stacked in a truck or worse completely collapsing while being carried.

The best way to ensure the integrity of your moving boxes is by using new ones. These can be purchased by either Skyline Moving Service, at your local home improvement store, or at a storage facility.

USE THE CORRECT BOX TYPE

When planning your packing process, ensure you purchase the proper box types. For typical household items, universal boxes ranging from small to extra large are the most useful. Additional box types include:

  • Wardrobe Boxes. Wardrobe boxes come with a hanging bar for use with garments on hangers.  In addition, they can be used for taller items such as artificial plants and/or sporting equipment.
  • Dish Pack Boxes. Dish pack boxes come with an added layer of cardboard especially helpful for protecting your glass and dishware.
  • Specialty Boxes. For items such as TVs and paintings. These often come as kits that include Styrofoam inserts to help protect corners and keep your items secure inside the box.

PACK YOUR BOXES SO THEY ARE COMPLETELY FULL

While packing your boxes, ensure they are packed tight and completely full. Boxes that are not completely full run the risk of collapsing during transport.  in addition, insure your fragile items are protected by filling in empty spaces with packing paper and keep the box weight under 30 pounds.

PLACE HEAVIER ITEMS IN SMALLER BOXES

For items being placed inside the standard small – extra large-sized boxes, keep total weight in mind. Place items such as books in smaller boxes and bedding in larger boxes. Ideally, each box should weigh no more than 30 pounds.

LABEL EACH BOX ON ALL SIDES

Once the packing is complete, the next step is to properly seal the box using packing tape. Secondly, we recommend labeling each box on all 4 sides. This ensures that the contents can be easily identifiable from every position.
